The Georgia Department of Education released 2020 graduation rates to the public this week. The Telfair County School District is pleased to announce that Telfair County High School posted a 93.4% 4-year graduation rate for 2020. This is up from 91.4% in 2019. The state graduation rate for 2020 is 83.8%. Congratulations to our dedicated students, faculty, staff, and administrators at each of our schools on this outstanding achievement!
For the next two weeks, our buses will be running their routes on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to feed our students. Drive thru service will be moved to Telfair Pre-K/BOE and will begin service at 11:00 A.M. There will be no meal pickups at the middle/high school until December 1. Buses will leave the schools around 10:45 A.M. and should start delivery around 11:00 A.M. Please be looking for our buses. Students will receive breakfast and lunch each day, except on Wednesday, when they will receive breakfast and lunch for the rest of the week. If your child does not ride the bus and you would like a meal, please call the BOE (229-868-5661) so your child can be added to the list.
Based upon an upturn in the number of COVID cases in our school system this week, Telfair County Schools will move to online learning or written packets for the next two weeks. This decision was reached after consultation with South Central DPH and careful consideration of the well-being of our students, staff, and community. Students will do online learning the period of 11-09-2020 through 11-20-2020. Students will return for in-person learning following Thanksgiving break on 11-30-2020. Teachers will report to school at 8:00 a.m. each day to provide support to students during this period. Students should check the school webpages and social media pages for updates specific to their school or call their school with questions. Information concerning school meals for next week will be posted this weekend. We thank you for your patience and understanding and look forward to the return of our students. May God bless each of you.
Each morning, come rain or shine; frigid or comfortable temperatures; Telfair County Elementary School is fortunate to have 5th grade young men who raise the American Flag in front of the campus each morning, and lower the flag each afternoon before dismissal. These six young men who have this patriotic job for this school year are Sam Gorday, Colt Harris, Kyler Livingston, Ladarious Pound, Brylan Thomas, and Cale White. Once these young men were named for this prestigious honor, Mr. Anthony McIver, TCES Principal; trained these young men on the correct way of hanging and taking down the flag and how to correctly fold the flag each day.
